The first Anarchy in Adelaide tore through The Hotel Metro in February 2025 and left the walls ringing. Now Ball and Chain Promotions and Flat Cap Productions are back with a bigger, louder sequel β and this time they've assembled a genuine interstate punk rock summit at one of Adelaide's most iconic venues.
Anarchy in Adelaide 2 hits The Edinburgh Castle Hotel on Saturday 7 February with nine bands drawn from four states, headlined by Sydney street punk veterans Rust. Doors at 3pm, last band finishes around midnight. That's nine straight hours of punk rock in a heritage pub that's been pouring beers since 1837. What could possibly go wrong?
The Headliner: Rust (NSW)
Rust have been weaponising Aussie pub rock since 2005, and two decades in they still hit harder than most bands half their age. Formed in Sydney by members of Crucified Venus, Crankcase, Rule 303, and Gravel Rash, they fuse the overdriven swagger of Rose Tattoo and early AC/DC with the boot-stomping urgency of MotΓΆrhead and The 4 Skins.
They've played Rebellion Festival in Blackpool four times. They've shared stages with The Exploited, DOA, and Rose Tattoo. Their albums Black Rats and Lean Mean Street Machine are staples of the Australian Oi! and street punk underground. If you haven't caught them live, this is your chance β Rust don't just play gigs, they level rooms.
The Curators: Convict Class (VIC)
Warrnambool four-piece Convict Class are the driving force behind the Anarchy in Adelaide concept. Fronted by the gravelly-voiced Sten Gun with Benno on guitar, Shane on bass and Al on drums, they channel the fury of the late-'70s British punk explosion β Sex Pistols, Anti-Nowhere League, Stiff Little Fingers β filtered through a distinctly Australian lens.
2024 was a breakout year for Convict Class. Their debut album Generation of Discontent peaked at #4 on the Australian Independent Charts, they played over 20 shows including a UK tour, and they ripped through the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool to rave reviews. They're already working on plans to make Anarchy in Adelaide a biannual fixture, with ambitions to bring international acts to SA.
The Full Lineup
The interstate contingent runs deep:
Kombi Killers (QLD) β Brisbane old-school punk stalwarts who've been flying the flag since 2009. Signed to Golden Robot's Riot Records imprint, they draw from The Exploited, GBH, Black Flag, and Dead Kennedys, mixing it with homegrown influence from Depression, X, and The Saints. Frontman Steve Ingram grew up during the original UK punk revolution and brings that first-hand fury to every performance.
Resolver (VIC) β Melbourne's femme-fronted street punk newcomers, already making serious noise with their 2024 EP Better Than What? on Common People Records. Featuring members of RazorCut, The Opposition, The Clinch, and Marching Orders, they bring a pedigree of Oi! and street punk experience with a fresh, uncompromising edge.
The Knock Backs (QLD) β Self-described as "uncorrupted by professionalism," this Brisbane four-piece are working-class street punk distilled to its purest form. You're more likely to catch them in a BYO industrial shed than a venue with a dress code, but when they take a proper stage they absolutely demolish it. Their album More Beer is exactly what it sounds like.
The local SA contingent is equally formidable:
Lola β Adelaide punk favourites bringing high-energy sets to the bill.
Perdition β Adelaide punk veterans coming out of a 15-month hibernation for this show, rumoured to be finalising a new album. Expect a mix of fresh material and the anarchic intensity they're known for.
Jongo Bones and the Barefoot Bandits β A wildcard on any lineup, bringing unpredictable energy to the Adelaide punk scene.
Rat Catcher β Rounding out the local contingent with raw, no-frills punk rock.
The Venue: The Ed Castle
The Edinburgh Castle Hotel isn't just any pub β it's South Australia's oldest continuously licensed hotel, first opened in 1837, the same year Adelaide was founded. After closing for five years and being sold in 2021 for $2.5 million, the Ed Castle was revamped and reopened with a dedicated live band room boasting one of the best PA systems in the city, plus a massive beer garden and front bar.
Sitting in the heart of Adelaide's West End on Currie Street, it's become a go-to for heavier live music. The intimate band room means you'll be close enough to the stage to taste the sweat. For a nine-band punk marathon, you couldn't ask for a better setting.
